Upper School Counseling Office

The counselors assist students as they navigate through the college admissions process by providing services aimed at developing students’ God-given potential, and by encouraging students to attend institutions commensurate with their academic and career goals.

We believe the college search process is about finding the right fit, and your counselor will encourage you explore a wide variety of universities of which you can attend. This process is a lot less about fitting the student to a particular college; rather we believe our mission as counselors is to create an environment where students gain a greater awareness of themselves so they will attend institutions that will continue to develop their God-given gifts to achieve their God-given purposes.

Throughout this stage, we encourage the student to take ownership of the college application process. The counselors will challenge students to clarify their personal vision by providing a number of opportunities for growth and development throughout their Minnehaha Academy high school career.

This process begins in earnest during the junior year when the counselors meet individually with students to discuss his or her academic record, interests, and goals for postsecondary attendance. Throughout the junior and senior year, students and parents are encouraged to attend workshops and interface with college admissions personnel.

Relationships with Colleges
Minnehaha Academy counselors represent the school by maintaining professional relationships with colleges and universities throughout the country. We do this by participating in college admissions conferences, professional organizations, and by touring schools throughout the year. In addition, approximately 70 college admissions officers visit Minnehaha each year. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to meet with prospective admissions representatives when they visit Minnehaha Academy to learn more about different colleges. An updated college visit schedule can be found on Naviance.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”. We pray that through this process, you will discover God’s unique path for your life, and that you will take a deep breath and enjoy the adventure that awaits!
