Enhancing the Classroom Experience
Physical education, art and music are vital elements in the Lower School curriculum. To expand upon classroom instruction, Minnehaha Academy offers fun and exciting special activities so that students may strengthen their bodies, spur their creativity and stretch their imaginations in new directions.

Lower School students can begin instruction in band or string instruments in Grade 5. In addition, students in PreK-5 may take private lessons on piano or strings during the school day for an additional charge.

Parent-run soccer, volleyball and basketball teams begin in Grade 5 for boys and girls. All Lower School students can participate in special winter activities in February and Track and Field Day in the spring.

Minnehaha Academy is blessed with two full-time art teachers who have developed a comprehensive, sequential art curriculum that promotes connections with the other subjects the children are studying. Each year, at least two or three pieces of artwork by each Lower School student are shown during an art exhibit, held in conjunction with parent/teacher conferences, or during the spring fine arts festival.

The Lower School Science Fair promotes discovery and imaginative thinking, while Math Masters permits students in Grade 5 to build their brainpower in competition with students from other schools.
