Minnehaha Academy Alumni Association Constitution

Article I: NAME
The name of the organization shall be the Minnehaha Academy Alumni Association, hereafter referred to as the Association.

Article II: PURPOSE
The Minnehaha Academy Alumni Association is organized to support and promote the general welfare of the Academy and its alumni, and to assist the Board, the Administration, the Faculty, the Staff and the Students in furthering the mission of the school which is to provide a high quality education that integrates the Christian faith, and spiritual growth.

The Association realizes that the core of a great school is a strong alumni association, and strives to instill within the alumni community a sense of pride, tradition, and care. It provides for a foundation of support and promotion of the school. The Alumni Association will:

  1. Inform and involve all alumni in opportunities to return to campus and participate in the current activities of the school.
  2. Provide opportunities for fellowship and involvement with former classmates and faculty.
  3. Encourage class reunions
  4. Encourage financial support of alumni

Article III: MEMBERSHIP
The membership of the Association shall consist of all graduates of Minnehaha Academy.

Membership may be granted to non-graduates on the nomination of the Executive Committee and the approval of a majority of Alumni Advisory Board members. Such membership should be granted to class members who have attended, but did not graduate, or to those who have rendered outstanding service and support to the Association and to Minnehaha Academy.

Article IV: THE ALUMNI ADVISORY BOARD
The Alumni Advisory Board, hereafter referred to as the Board, shall be the governing body of the Association. The Board shall conduct business and activities pursuant to the purpose of the Association.

The Board shall consist of fifteen to twenty members. All Board members shall be members of the Association. A member will normally serve for three consecutive years with an annual recommitment to service. The term of service shall begin on January 1. New and continuing members shall be elected in December by a two-thirds majority vote of the current Board members. Vacant positions may be filled by a two-thirds majority vote of the current Board members whenever a vacancy exists. Resignations of Board members should be made in writing to the Office of Development/Alumni Office.

Ex-officio members of the Board shall include:

  1. the President of Minnehaha Academy,
  2. the Director of Development,
  3. the Alumni Relations Director and
  4. a representative from the Minnehaha Academy Senior Class.

All Association activities shall be conducted with the knowledge of the Office of Development/Alumni Office.

Article V: OFFICERS OF THE ALUMNI ADVISORY BOARD
Officers of the Board shall include a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary.

Officers shall be elected from among the current Board members by a majority vote of the Board members. The election of officers shall be held annually prior to December 30 with the term of office beginning on Janaury 1. Officers are elected to serve for one year. Vacant positions shall be filed by an election at the first meeting after the vacancy occurs. When necessary, an interim Chairperson shall be designated by the Alumni Relations Director to serve until a new Chairperson is elected.

The duties of the Chairperson shall be to:

  1. provide leadership pursuant to the Association's purpose,
  2. assure coordination with the Office of Development and
  3. preside over meetings of the Board.

The Vice-Chairperson shall serve as the Chairperson in the absence of the Chairperson.
The Secretary shall record and transcribe the minutes of each Board meeting.

Article VI: COMMITTEES AND SUB-COMMITTEES
The Executive Committee shall consist of the Board Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson and other standing committee chairpersons. This committee shall coordinate candidates for Board membership. The Board Chairperson shall chair the Executive Committee.

The Program and Events Committee shall sponsor events for the Minnehaha Community and raise volunteer support of Minnehaha Academy and the Association by its members. This committee will encourage participation in Alumni events, and work closely with the Class Representatives to achieve the goal of reaching and reconnecting with more Alumni.

The Giving Committee shall promote financial support of Minnehaha Academy in coordination with the Office of Development, assist in fund raising activities as directed.

The Information Resource Committee shall promote Minnehaha Academy and the Association activities. Technology is key to future communications within the Association, Minnehaha Community, and to the public.

The Fellowship Committee shall promote spiritual growth through fellowship among graduates of Minnehaha Academy, through on-going services and resources, forming a strong network of support for the members of the Association.

*Special event and ad hoc committees may be formed as needed.
Committees need not be limited to Board members, but all committees should include a Board member.

Article VII: MEETINGS
Meetings of the Board shall be conducted, as necessary, pursuant to the purpose of the Association. As a minimum, the Board shall meet three times each year. The presence of majority of Board members constitutes a quorum.

Committee and subcommittees shall meet as necessary at the call of the committee or subcommittee chairperson.

Article VIII: AMENDMENTS
This constitution shall be amended only by a two-third vote of the current Board members.
