Helping Students with Special Needs
Minnehaha Academy holds its Christian emphasis and desire for academic excellence as complementary goals. Our faculty is committed to helping all students reach their greatest potential. Our curriculum requires that students be motivated to work in a challenging academic atmosphere. We are able to make accommodations for students who can compensate for their disabilities in ways that enable them to fulfill the course work required of all students.
MA's Learning Specialist position is designed to assist in working with students who have special academic needs.
Ms. Elaine Ekstedt, who has a Masters Degree in Special Education, works with individual teachers, consults with parents, and meets regularly with administrators and the admissions department to explore appropriate resources for these students. In addition she teaches the Upper School Learning Lab classes. Learning Lab is also provided in grades 6-8 for a limited number of students. There is also a part-time academic support person in the Lower School.
